ENCOURAGING YOUNG PEOPLE
Many children and young people spend so much time staring into smartphones or playing computer games. Mixing with others seems to be only at school. So, it is refreshing to see the Scouts going strong and showing what can be done in the Real World.
Central Ribbleton Scout Group, based at the Blessed Sacrament Scout Hut on Farringdon Lane, provide lively and enriching activities for young people from the age of six right through to 14 years of age. Their groups are divided as Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, all of which are lively.
These different clubs enable youngsters to make new friends, try new things, master skills and have adventures exploring the world outside. Essential life skills for all. The Group is led by a dedicated team of Trustees and Leaders brining the best they can to help develop the members.
Preston Guild Lodge have been delighted to support the development of these youngsters with a donation of £1000. Master of the Lodge, David Parker Jnr, presented the cheque to Trustees, Lesley Ann Stickley, Kevin Stickley; both of whom are active leaders, and former Mayor of Preston, Neil Darby. The donation is going to be used to upgrade the tents that the Group use. Camping is a firm favourite of all of the different clubs within the Group.
On the visit the Cubs were busy learning how to decorate small Christmas Cakes. It was a lively and enthusiastic session. The youngsters demonstrated innovation and some skilful artwork in their creations.
