PAST MASTERS JEWEL RECOVERED

PAST MASTERS JEWEL RECOVERED

3rd January 2024 Off By guildlodge

It’s amazing what comes up on Auction sites these days. Recently one of Preston Guild Lodges Past Masters Jewels came up for auction alongside an East Lancashire PMJ and a Rose Croix jewel.

The PGL Jewel was first presented in 1939 to Robert Ernest Hargreaves. It was later re-presented to Bill Seddon Snr in 1959 and in turn to his son, Bill Seddon Jnr in 1975. The Jewel is silver gilt.

Regardless of the provenance, the lodge wanted to repatriate it. The vendor would not agree a sale by Private Treat or split the lot. So, patience prevailed and the lot was won at the auction. The lodge instructed the auctioneer to retain and auction the other two jewels which means we recouped half of what we had originally spent.

We are proud to have it back in our hands and it will be reissued in due course.
